SGGFA?
The SGGFA is the Scholar Green Greenfields Association, an association formed in late 2006 to respond to Planning Application 06/1146/FUL (the proposed mixed-use development on land to the south of Portland Drive Scholar Green).
The aim of the association is to provide a balanced appraisal of the above application, and, ultimately, help provide Odd Rode with a new healthcare facility it so desperately needs, but without an unwanted housing development.
This application has generated a high level of emotional reaction from village residents; we believe this reflects the value villagers put on their way of life.
Unfortunately, many residents have been led to believe they have only two options. . .
To lose the village surgery completely, or to accept a large housing estate in order to retain the village GPs and surgery.
We are firmly of the opinion that this is not the choice. We would argue that the real choice is between a healthcare facility with houses, and a healthcare facility without houses.
Make no mistake, the option of a healthcare facility without an umbilical housing development is eminently achievable.
The elderly, infirmed and vulnerable members of our community are, quite rightly, extremely concerned at the prospect of Dr. Patterson’s resignation and subsequent closure of the village surgery if this development doesn’t go ahead. We feel they are being put in an impossible position. Utopia for the vast majority would appear to be a much-improved village surgery with no housing development. The SGGFA believe we should all work together to realise this goal.
